2001: a space oddity

The movie "2001: a space odyssey" is a very cool movie, besides the fact that most people don't understand it. Here are a few little facts I've uncovered while reading the books over the weekend.
~ the monoliths are the discarded artificial bodies of an alien race dedicated to sowing life across the universe. They placed their brains, and finally just their personae on these artificial doohickeys, before figuring out how to become creatures of radiation.
~ HAL was given conflicting orders by mission control, which caused him to go crazy and cause the deaths of 4 crew members aboard Discovery .
~Frank did not die, but was reawakened by humans in the year 3001.
